Trinity Green is at the heart of SIRF

VISITORS to Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) will find a myriad of performances at Trinity Green – and Holy Trinity Church is again the focal point for a very special show.

Irish contemporary circus company Fidget Feet return to SIRF with AWAKENING, which was inspired by their successful theatre show Madam Silk.

It is being specially adapted for the interior of Trinity Church and AWAKENING will fill the ruined nave with spectacular acrobatics, special effects and film projections as memories come alive.

Visitors to last year’s SIRF may have been lucky enough to see World Famous’ spine tingling show, Trinity, which took place within the Church and told the story of its beginnings, demise through fire and rebirth through its renovation.

AWAKENING features a mix of dance, circus and video art alongside original music. You can catch the evening show from Thursday 29 July to Saturday 31 July.

The accent is very much on dusk or after dark performances at Trinity Green. As well as Fidget Feet inside the Church, Trinity Green hosts fire-lit performances from Teatro Ka and Akademi.

Teatro Ka are from Portugal and return to SIRF for the third time to present Echo of Silence. This beautiful performance includes a stiltwalker, a contortionist, an actor and a human statue and asks a question very relevant to our time; is there a monster lurking within all of us? They will be performing on the evenings of Thursday and Friday, 29 and 30 July.

The stillness of Zen and energy of whirling Sufi combine in Akademi’s Sufi Zen dance theatre piece which merges multiple dance styles including kathak, bharat natyam, Western contemporary and ballet traditions. This performance reflects Akademi’s long standing reputation for presenting modern perspectives on traditional South Asian dance forms in distinct places. Catch them at Trinity Green on Friday and Saturday, 30 and 31 July.

The Ilimitrof Company from France, who have spent many years working in China with local actors will be offering a free Tai Chi class in Trinity Green on Thursday and Friday mornings.

Continuing the oriental theme, passers by will not be mistaken if they see a rickshaw meandering its way through the grounds.

Metro Boulot Dodo return to SIRF to offer Whispers from a Rickshaw. Take a spin in the vehicle, don a pair of headphones and immerse yourself in a world where secret pockets hide intriguing objects which contemplate the nature of journeys and destiny. It’s in Trinity Green for one day only on Friday, 30 July but can be found on a new route in Church Road on Saturday, 31 July.

There is one other daytime show in Trinity Green on Thursday and Friday as Pif-Paf present fun for all the family with Trunk. Watch as the Ring Master struggles to keep control of a surprising cast of rebellious animal puppets as he tries to introduce the main attraction – Trunk, a majestic elephant.
